The Feed version of the derived variables story. The detail lives in the blog article (dc/datacontroller.io#27, /derived-variables/), so this is the announcement: 180 words that make the request and link to it, rather than a second article.
content/feed/columns-that-are-not-in-the-table/ - title "The column that is not in the table", published at /columns-that-are-not-in-the-table/.
Carries the hook, the computed-against-locked marking, one line on why a derived column is filterable at all, then [the article](/derived-variables/) and the docs link, and the house CTA (/contact).
Cover is the same real-estate capture as the article's grid still - 1024 CSS px at 2x, clipped to the rows - so the cover is legible on a card rather than a thumbnail of an empty page. No inline image: the detail is the article's job.
No "ships with the next release" claim; the docs page it links to loses its draft banner in dc/docs.datacontroller.io#24.
Verified on a real npm run build: renders at its slug, links to /derived-variables/ and /contact, appears on /feed/, one image at 2048x540.
Merge order: #27 first (or both together), and both want the release.

A short, opinionated post for the feed: the request that always sounds like five
minutes, the marking that says a column is computed rather than locked, and the
DATA step view that makes a derived column filterable. Links to the docs page
and to a discovery call.
Screenshots are from a real SAS backend, so the grid shown is the shipped one -
fx badge, tinted cells, and the edge that opens the computed block.
Reviewed the full diff: a new feed post (index.md plus two images) for the derived-variables release. Scope is prose and markdown; product behaviour claims in the copy are not verifiable from this repo.
content/feed/columns-that-are-not-in-the-table/index.md:39 - "" has empty alt text. This image carries the central argument (filtering on a derived column), so a screen-reader user gets nothing from it. Add alt text describing the filter bar against REGION.
content/feed/columns-that-are-not-in-the-table/index.md:21 - "This ships with the next Data Controller release." never names the version, while the trailing comment says 7.19 and dc/dc#348 is the 7.19 release PR. Name 7.19 so the post does not read as stale once 7.20 is next.
Conventional Commits: the PR subject "feed(derived-variables): ..." is not a Conventional Commits type. If this repo cuts releases from commit messages, use feat(feed) or docs(feed); no release config is visible from the API, so this may not apply here.

The feed post had grown to 800 words and retold everything the blog article
already covers. Feed is for short announcements, so this is now 180 words: the
request every reporting team makes, the computed-against-locked marking, one
line on why a derived column can be filtered, then a link to the article and the
docs. The inline screenshot goes with the detail, leaving the cover.

changed title from feed(derived-variables): the column that is not in the table to feed(derived-variables): a teaser that links to the article2026-10-28 00:03:29 +00:00
The cover is the same capture as the article's grid still - 1024 CSS px at 2x,
clipped to the rows - so the derived columns are legible on the feed card rather
than a thumbnail of a mostly-empty page. It also stops promising the next
release, which is about to be stale.
Reviewed the full diff at d375382 - new feed teaser (markdown post plus cover image), content only.
content/feed/columns-that-are-not-in-the-table/index.md:19 - the in-body CTA links to /derived-variables/, but no such page exists in the repo at this head: the content tree holds only blog/ and feed/, and the only "derived" path is the new cover image. The teaser's main link 404s until that article lands, so either bring the article in with this PR or point the link at the external docs URL already cited on the next line.
